Nicolás Enríquez de Vargas (Guadalajara, 1704-1790) Virgin of Guadalupe. Oil on copper. Signed, located in Mexico and dated 1769. 40.5 x 30 cm. New Spanish painter, student of Juan Rodríguez Juárez. Nicolás Enríquez was one of the best painters of the colonial era in Mexico and was active, at least, between the years 1730 and 1780. Together with José de Ibarra, he founded the Academy of Painting in Mexico City, which was later directed by the Rodriguez Juarez brothers.
