Marshal Suchet requests to the Minister Clarke rewards for his soldiers having proved remarkable behaviour during the Battle of Castalla, stating in part `I have the honour to send you the general state of the distinctions I request in favour of the braves who distinguished in the fights of the 11th, 12th and 13th of this month… I beg you insistently.. so you would kindly submit them to His Majesty.. On one side the Anglo-Spanish forces commanded by Lieutenant General John Murray, and to the other the French Army commanded by Marshal Suchet. Murray´s troops repelled French attacks causing Suchet´s retreat. The Anglo-Allied force lost close to 500 men and the French ones over a thousand.
