SUCHET LOUIS GABRIEL: (1770-1826) Marshal of France. Duc d´Albufera. One of the most brilliant of Napoleon´s Generals. L.S., `Le M.al Duc D´Albufera´, attractive signature with heavy link underline, one page, Head Quarters of San Felipe, 22nd April 1813, to the Duke de Feltre, Minister of war, in French. Marshal Suchet requests to the Minister Clarke rewards for his soldiers having proved remarkable behaviour during the Battle of Castalla, stating in part `I have the honour to send you the general state of the distinctions I request in favour of the braves who distinguished in the fights of the 11th, 12th and 13th of this month… I beg you insistently.. so you would kindly submit them to His Majesty.. He will welcome such requests made for these so devoted and loyal subjects´ Very small minor creasing to the edges and small crease to the lower right corner, otherwise G to VG The Battle of Castalla, near Alicante, Spain, took place on 13th April 1813. On one side the Anglo-Spanish forces commanded by Lieutenant General John Murray, and to the other the French Army commanded by Marshal Suchet. Murray´s troops repelled French attacks causing Suchet´s retreat. The Anglo-Allied force lost close to 500 men and the French ones over a thousand.
