an antique, Chinese, outstanding, stucco monumental Buddha head.
Qing dyn.
A rare , unusual big and beautifully hand crafted stucco over wood and fiber. The eyes are inlaid , probably glass beads (or onyx).
At the forehead there is a cavity, were once a gam stone was, probably, inlaid. The modeling of the face is more late Ming or early Qing style, but probably early 19th cent.
There are some curls missing from the ushnisha. The right ear lobe is , slightly broken at the tip. the left ear is almost lost. The stucco is covered with numerous layers of paint, that were done and redone through the years.
The Buddha's facials expression is that of soft piety.
