Two-volume manuscript, by Rabbi Meir Yitzchak Friedman. [New York, late 19th century]. Listings on laws of Treifot [food ritually unfit for eating], articles on weekly Torah portions, homilies for festivals and various occasions and several copies of letters. First and last leaves of manuscript contain many notations of names for prayer of people in need of salvation.
Rabbi Meir Yitzchak Friedman, disciple of Torah giants of Hungary, the Ktav Sofer of Pressburg , Rabbi Hillel Lichtenstein of Kolomea and Rabbi Chaim Sofer. Served as Rabbi of Chevra Kadisha and Talmud Torah in New York during second half of 19th century. Toward the end of his lifetime immigrated to Jerusalem where he printed his book Me’orei Yitzchak on the Torah (Jerusalem, 1910). Apparently, this manuscript was not printed.
One of the leaves contains his signature and stamp. Attached: official stationery with draft of letter, and additional handwritten leaves.
Two volumes. Approx. 400 written leaves. 31 cm. Good condition, stains and wear.
