CAMBACERES - FREEMASONRY: Jean Jacques de Cambacéres (1753-1824) French Noble, Lawyer and Statesman during the French Revolution and French Empire. Co-Author of the Napoleonic code, which still is at the base of the French and many other countries civil law. A rare and very attractive multiple signed large 21 x 20 title, one page, vellum, dated on the 5th day of the month twelve, of the true light year 5809, 5th December 1809, in French. Signed by Cambacéres as Grand-Master `Cambaceres gr.m´. The partially printed document is an extremely attractive decorated printed title, entitled «To the Glory of the Grand Architect of Universe - Under the auspices of the Grand-Master - The Grand Orient of France». The document being the constitution of the Lodge of Crest Orient, new members of Minerve St. John of Scotland, and is also signed by illustrious contemporary celebrities such as Bertaud de Beaurepaire, Deputy and writer. The document bears two red wax seals and a large and very attractive pewter seal, in a circular metallic box, with the Imperial eagle on it and the text «Grand Orient of France», attached with blue, white and red ribbons. VG £600-900 During Napoleon's reign, he was charged by the Emperor to monitor Freemasonry in France. From 1805 to 1815, he was the assistant of Joseph Bonaparte, Grand Master of Grand Orient de France, and managed the post-revolutionary rebirth of French freemasonry. During his term, more than 1200 lodges were created.
