LA FAYETTE GILBERT DU MOTIER: (1757-1834) Marquis de La Fayette. French Aristocrat and Military Officer. Close to George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, La Fayette fought in the American Revolutionary War. He later became a key figure in the French Revolution of 1789 and the July Revolution of 1830. Two documents signed by La Fayette. The first being a rare A.L.S., Lafayette, one page, 4to, Paris, 21st August 1830, to Monsieur Lascours, in French. Lafayette states in part `I have met your compatriots my dear Lascours, and I joined them
the necessity of finding weapons for our National Guard. We take care of the definitive organization and we wish to progress quick...´ The National Guard had been dissolve in 1827, but would be re-established in 1830 under La Fayette. With blank address leaf, bearing an ink stamp and a small area of paper loss as a result of the letter opening. Overall creasing. Together with a L.S., addressed to the Minister, Secretary of State for Finances, bearing three Autograph Annotations signed to the left border, including General Lascours and Gilbert du Mortier La Fayette, one page, folio, Paris, 24th November 1830, in French. La Fayette, on a two lines annotation states `I eagerly support my colleague.. La Fayette´ With blank integral leaf. Folded.
