DUMAS ALEXANDRE Père: (1802-1870) French Writer whose works include The Three Musketeers. A.L.S., A. Dumas, one page, 8vo, n.p., [Paris], n.d., to Monsieur Porcher, in French. Dumas refers to a court case and to the amount of money he has been sentenced to pay, and states `Monsieur Porcher, mon affaire est rappellée vendredi prochain au tribunal de Commerce. J´ai encore un millier de francs à payer, voila pouquoi je travaille comme un chien...´ (Translation: "Mr. Porcher, my case is recalled next Friday to the Commerce Court. I still have a thousand francs to pay, that's why I work like crazy..´ Further, Dumas asks once again his correspondent for funds, and before concluding states `Si vous pouvez me donner exactement les 100fr par tableua, j´arriverai...´ (Translation: "If you can give me exactly 100fr for each volume, I will be able to sort it out...") Jean Baptiste Porcher (1792-1864) French former theatre employee and theatrical agent who created an agency which used to buy copyrights to their authors and ticket passes, later reselling them at the entrance doors of theatres. He very often was advancing money to Dumas and sometimes keeping some manuscripts in pledge. Dumas wrote about him `The man in Paris who has rendered more services to me.'
