PIUS IX: (1792-1878) Pope Pius IX 1846-78. He was the longest-reigning elected pope in the history of the Catholic Church. During his pontificate, he convened the First Vatican Council which decreed papal infallibility. L.S., `Pius PP IX´, with holograph annotation, one page, 4to, n.p., 24th November 1873, to Baron Bechtolsheim, in French. The holograph annotation in the Pope´s hand being a blessing in Latin `Benedicat vos Deus, et pax sit..´. The letter being the apostolic blessing requested for Baron Bechtolsheim and Baroness Erstenberg who are about to get married. Accompanied by the original envelope, bearing to the verso a red wax Papal seal in fine condition. With blank integral leaf. Folded. Small overall, minor age wear. About VG £150-200
