LEO XII: (1760-1829) Pope of Roman Catholic Church and Ruler of Papal States 1823-29. A conservative and unpopular Pope who aproved a law forbidding Jews to own property. Leo XII was in ill health since his election until he passed away six years after. L.S., `Card[ina]le della Genga´, one page, 4to, Rome, 12th November 1818, to Archbishop of Olmutz, in Italian. Leo XII, in his capacity as Cardinal, thanks his correspondent for his kind letter, generosity, and sends his best wishes and respect. The letter shows a watermark. Very small overall, minor age wear. VG £250-350
