WATSON-WATT ROBERT: (1892-1973) Scottish physicist, a pioneer of radar technology and radio direction finding whose development of HFDF helped greatly to defeat the threat of German U-boats during World War II. Watson-Watt later advised the United States on air defence after Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor. A vintage signed and inscribed printed 5 x 7.5 frontispiece image, evidently neatly removed from a book, depicting Watson-Watt seated in a full-length pose at his desk within a room of his Canadian home. Signed by Watson-Watt in dark fountain pen ink to the lower white border and dated 1969 in his hand. Neatly laid down to a stiff white card. VG
