[BATTLE OF BRITAIN]: PHILIP (1921-2021) Duke of Edinburgh, Consort of Queen Elizabeth II 1952-2021. Prince Philip served in the Royal Navy during World War II and was presented with his Royal Air Force wings in 1953, becoming a Marshal of the RAF. The Prince also served as Air Commodore-in-Chief of the Air Training Corps 1953-2015. A fine book signed, being a folio hardback edition of The Fell in the Battle, A Roll of Honour of the Battle of Britain, 10 July - 31 October 1940, published by the Royal Air Force Museums and designed and printed by Will Carter of the Rampant Lions Press, Cambridge, 1980, in a limited edition of just eighty copies (the present example numbered 64) for distribution on the 40th anniversary of the Battle of Britain. With a foreword by Prince Philip stating, in part, 'This Roll of Honour commemorates the 435 pilots and 63 crew members of the Royal Air Force and Fleet Air Arm who lost their lives while engaged in operational flying duties controlled by Fighter Command during the Battle of Britain'. Signed ( 'Philip') by the Duke of Edinburgh at the conclusion in his capacity as Marshal of the Royal Air Force. Printed on Arches Velin mould-made paper and bound by W. T. Morrell of Covent Garden in specially dyed goatskin with a gilt stamped cross device to the front board and gilt stamped title to the spine between two raised bands. Top edge gilt and the others untrimmed. Contained in the plain blue cloth slipcase (some age wear) as issued. Some light spots of foxing to the preliminary blanks and light age wear, the base of the spine a little faded. About VG
