ELIZABETH II: (1926- ) Queen of the United Kingdom since 1952. A.L.S., `Elizabeth R«, two pages, 8vo, London, 16th March 1957, to 'My dear Georgina«, in French. On the red printed stationery of Buckingham Palace, the Queen sends a kind and friendly message to her former French teacher, Madame Reinhold, thanking her for her letter and stating `I was right now going to write to you and ask you if it would be possible that you come to Paris I will have time the first day. Monday at 5.45 for tea at the Palais de l«Elysee.« further saying `I hope this is convenient to you and that your husband and Elizabeth can come too, I will be very glad.« The Queen concludes saying `Bobo is getting much better but she has been quite ill, you know!« Accompanied by the original envelope addressed in the Queen«s hand to `Madame Reinhold - La Mardelle - Isdes - Loiret - France«, post-stamped with several Buckingham Palace cancellations. Folded. VG £800-1200 Margaret (Bobo) Mac Donald, Scots-born, daughter of a farmer, was the nanny, dresser and confidante of Queen Elizabeth II. Her nickname, Bobo, is thought to have been the first word the Queen uttered. It is said that Miss MacDonald was the only person outside the Royal Family allowed to call the Queen by her nickname ''Lilibet''. She served the Queen for 67 years starting as nursemaid. In her later years, Bobo held a unique position in Buckingham Palace, having her own suite, no duties and enjoying a closer personal friendship with the Queen.
