"Tragedy for the Jewish people is in sight"! a chilling item: Volume of the last issues of the Jewish newspaper "Welt Spiegel" in Warsaw - a few months before the Holocaust.
"אידישע טראגעדיע קוקט פון די אויגען ארויס" (free translation: tragedy for the Jewish people is in sight).
This chilling headline is based on the first issue of the volume before us, which combines the latest issues of the Jewish newspaper Welt Welgel, published in Warsaw, shortly before the terrible Holocaust - January-June 1939.
The picture seen on the front tells it all: a frightened Jewish boy, sending his hands up in terror at the following. This is basically the picture of the Jewish people in Europe in those days. The issues before us describe the great fear that prevailed in the Jewish communities, a few months before the German army invaded the city.
Alongside the issues is an accurate coverage of political developments in Europe and Hitler's plot. We become acquainted with the sad reality that was experienced in the eyes of the Jews on the eve of the accursed Holocaust. The articles are accompanied by photos, and photocopies of documents and maps.
"טרגדיה לעם היהודי נראית באופק"! פריט מצמרר: כרך הגליונות האחרונים של העיתון היהודי "וועלט שפיגעל" בוורשה - חודשים ספורים לפני השואה.
"אידישע טראגעדיע קוקט פון די אויגען ארויס" (תרגום חופשי: טרגדיה לעם היהודי נראית באופק).
כותרת מצמררת זו מתנוססת על הגיליון הראשון בכרך שלפנינו, המאגד את הגליונות האחרונים של העיתון היהודי "וועלט שפיגעל" שיצא לאור בווארשה, זמן קצר לפני השואה הנוראה - ינואר-יוני 1939.
התמונה הנראית בשער, מספרת הכל: ילד יהודי מפוחד, שולח ידיו באימה מפני הבאות. זו בעצם תמונתו של העם היהודי באירופה באותם ימים. בגליונות שלפנינו מתואר הפחד הגדול שהשתרר בקהילות היהודיות, חודשים ספורים לפני פלישת הצבא הגרמני לעיר.
לאורך הגליונות מופיע סיקור מדויק של ההתפתחויות הפוליטיות באירופה וזממו של היטלר. אנו מתוודעים למציאות העגומה איך שנחוותה בעיניהם של היהודים ערב השואה הארורה. המאמרים והכתבות מלווים בתמונות, ובצילומי מסמכים ומפות.
אחת הכתבות בכרך שלפנינו מתארת את דמותו של חג' אמין אל-חוסייני ימ"ש, המופתי בירושלים. באוקטובר 1937 ברח משלטונות המנדט ועזב את ארץ ישראל. במלחמת העולם השנייה שיתף פעולה עם גרמניה הנאצית והקים בוואפן אס אס יחידות מתנדבים מוסלמים. בשל פעולותיו במלחמת העולם השנייה, הוכרז כפושע מלחמה. בזמן מלחמת העצמאות (1947–1949), הנהיג את ערביי ארץ ישראל ממקום גלותו.
