Thank-You Letter to the Tomchei Torah Organization from the Gaon Rabbi Moshe Chaim Lau, Av Beit Din of Pietrkov

"I was very happy to see that our faithful brethren, people of action from Hungary who live in the United States have not, Heaven forbid, forgotten the enthusiasm they brought with them from their native land, to strengthen weak knees."

Thank-you letter sent by the gaon Rabbi Moshe Chaim Lau, may his blood be avenged, av beit din of Preshov and Pietrkov, to the Tomchei Torah organization run by Hungarian immigrants to the United States, for their generous support of the Torat Chayim yeshivah he established in his city. He requests that they continue to come to the assistance of the bnei yeshivah.

Inter alia, he notes that there are currently seventy precious young men studying in his yeshivah, ninety percent of whom are children of poor people, who will go on to spread Torah, and who need external support and assistance under the difficult circumstances in which yeshivah students in Europe find themselves. "And I cannot describe the greatness of this mitzvah and its importance."

In his poetic language, he writes that the sacred Torah pleads for its children like a merciful mother - "Did you not know that Torah is your life and the length of your days, and without it, you have no way to survive in exile; it is only thanks to your appreciation of the Torah life. As the bat kol called out at Mount Sinai, "Oy to people for the insult to Torah." You are required to concern yourself without Torah and the soul of the nation.'
