"Shaliach L'Holchah" Handwritten Letter from the Dayan Rabbi Simchah Zelig of Brisk, 1934

Important halachic letter from the gaon and tzaddik Rabbi Simchah Zelig Riger, the famed dayan of Brisk. (Rabbi Aharon Yehudah Leib Steinman's teacher.) Sent to the gaon Rabbi Koppel Kahana, av beit din of Rasna. Brisk, 1927.

This letter deals with one of the most difficult halachic problems - divorce in the absence of the husband - and Rabbi Simchah Zelig gives final details for writing and delivering the get through Rabbi Koppel Kahana to the wife who resides in Brisk, while the husband is in Rasna.

In his letter, the dayan of Brisk writes that they asked the wife if she is satisfied with receiving the get, and she answered in the affirmative. He also writes the wife's name, and the city of her residence between rivers, as is required to be written in a get, and the messenger's name [Rabbi David ben Pesach Aharon] who attended the beit din on Brisk, and he requests that they send 10 guilder to pay the messenger.

Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for brief biographies of the gaon Rabbi Simchah Zelig Riger and the addressee, the gaon Rabbi Koppel Kahana.
