Gustav Jagerspacher was a German graphic artist and lithographer. He was the son of the photographer Carl Jagerspacher, who opened a studio in Gmunden in 1880. The family associated with Peter Altenberg, of whom Gustav Jagerspacher painted several portraits. Gustav's sister, Maria Elisabeth Hausmann-Jagerspacher, fascinated Altenberg and Karl Kraus. Gustav studied painting with Simon Hollosy at his private art school in Munich. At the beginning of the 20th century, he went to Paris. In 1903, he and Rudolf Grossmann met Henri-Pierre Roché in Munich, who was interested in the Munich Secession. As a former member of the Münchner Künstlergenossenschaft (Munich Artists' Cooperative, MKG), Jagerspacher exhibited primarily in Germany and Vienna. The Munich gallery owner Georg Caspari was an important supporter. In 1911, Jagerspacher founded the artists' association Sema in Munich with Paul Klee. This was followed by several exhibitions and the publication of several portfolios. In 1913, Jagerspacher, along with Albert Weisgerber (president), Paul Klee and Max Feldbauer, co-founded the Münchener Neue Secession (Munich New Secession, MNS). The first exhibition took place a few months before the outbreak of World War II. The association continued its activities during the war. Jagerspacher married the Swiss artist Hélène Häfliger (1885–before 1922), who was also his student and became a painter and exhibited with him. The Swiss collector Rudolf Staechelin (1881–1946) acquired works by both of them. Jagerspacher is primarily known as a portraitist. He also painted genre scenes with workers, outcasts, and prisoners. He also painted nudes and religious scenes, some of which are reminiscent of El Greco. As a lithographer, he worked in the Expressionist style. Further artists and styles: realism, café literature
