Konopa, dated 1912 ESTIMATE °€ 300 - 500 STARTING PRICE °€ 300 At first apprenticed to an industrial painter, he was a student at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts from 1881, under R. Huber and M. v. Trenkwald. Master School Prize of the Academy. 1890 entry into the Kuenstlerhaus and 1900 member of the Hagenbund, which he left again in 1906. On a Kenyon scholarship (1894), he travelled to France (in Paris he was in the Jettel circle), England and Italy, where he met Boecklin. In 1899, he was awarded the Golden Medal of the Kuenstlerhaus. In 1914, he rejoined the Kuenstlerhaus as a member of the Aquarellistenklub (Watercolour Club). From 1915, he was a war painter in Russia and Italy. The Museum of Military History in Vienna has about 50 pictures from this period. Other works by him are in the possession of the Austrian Gallery, Vienna, the Historical Museum of the City of Vienna, the Graphic Collection Albertina, Vienna, and others. Konopa's beginnings are in Impressionism, both in style and in the subject matter of his paintings, which includes portrait, genre, landscape and still life.
