המחבר מגדולי רבני דורו, נולד בשנת תפ"ג, לרב יקותיאל זיסקינד הכהן, אב"ד מחוז ליבוניה. בצעירותו למד אצל דודו רבי אריה לייב גינצבורג - מחבר הספר "שאגת אריה", שכיהן אז כרב וכראש ישיבה בעיר מינסק.כיהן כרב בכמה ערים חשובות. נודע במלחמתו בהשכלה. בשנת תקל"ו נבחר לשמש כרב בשלוש הקהילות אלטונה, המבורג וואנדסבק (אה"ו), תפקיד אותו מילא במשך כ-23 שנים. לעת זקנותו הודיע לאנשי קהילתו על רצונו לפרוש מתפקידו כרב העיר מחמת גילו. נפטר באלטונה בכ"ו בחשון תקס"ד.
