In the book, Bauer claims that the Jews will gain political emancipation if they only abandon the customs of the Jewish religion, since emancipation is only possible in a secular state.
Bruno Bauer (1809-1882) was a German philosopher and theologian, one of the prominent students of Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel.
