Rare and expensive! "The Twelve" by Alexander Blok - Illustrations by the Russian Avant-Garde Painter Mikhail Larionov - London 1920
The Twelve, by Alexander Blok, with illustrations and cover designs by Michael Larionov.
London: Chatto & Windus, 1920.
An early English translation of the poem "The Twelve" by Russian poet Alexander Blok (1880-1921), first published in Russian in 1918 and controversial for being a poetic response to the October Revolution. This edition was published a year before Blok's death, and is accompanied by eight illustrated plates + cover illustrations by the Russian avant-garde artist Mikhail Larionov (1881-1964). Larionov was a painter who worked with radical exhibitors and pioneered the first approach to abstract Russian art. His partner was the avant-garde artist Natalia Goncharova. This is a rare, sought-after and expensive book, sold worldwide for between 1,000-2,000 dollars.
English, 27X21 cm. Reasonable condition: part of the spine is missing, some of the pages are loose and detached.
