The Dream and Lie of Franco - A Rare Picasso Catalog of Etchings from the Spanish Civil War - Songe et Mensonge de Franco: 14 Eaux-Fortes de Picasso, 1937. ”The Dream and Lie of Franco.” A rare and interesting booklet of etchings in aquatint by Picasso, related to the Spanish Civil War. Published in 1937, in the midst of the Spanish Civil War and in the same year Picasso painted his masterpiece Guernica, this work is significant as Picasso's first overtly political work. The etchings satirize Franco's claim to represent and defend conservative Spanish culture and values by showing him in various ridiculous guises destroying Spain. The booklet includes 14 etchings. Each two etchings are presented side by side as options for different dream and false realities. Also included are musical notes of the work ”The Victory of Guernica (Fragment)” by the composer George Auric. French, 10pp . Good general condition.
