המזכיר, רבי גבריאל גבריאלוביץ, הזדעק שהוסרו קופות צדקה שהציב בטענה שאין לו זכות להשתמש בשם רמבעה"נ. הוא זימן אסיפת רבנים בו נשא נאום נלהב וקיבל את הסכמת כלל הנוכחים לכך שכולל שיקאגו יקרא "הכולל היחידי ועד הכללי כנס"י רמבעה"נ", על מנת שהדבר לא יפגע בהמשך גיוס התרומות לעניים:
"אנחנו לא חפצים לותר ע"ש רמבעה"נ בשו"א [בשום אופן], הרבנים כולמו והרב קוק בראשם מצאו ע"פ ד"ת שלכולל שיקאגו דין חזקה ואסור ליגע בהם כמלא נימא... האמינו לי רבותי על דברתי הנאמנה כי לא סגרתי הלילה עפעפי לרגע, הנני נרגש ונרגז ומאוד מאד אפחד שמכל העמל הזה יוולד עכבר!... חפצי שעבודתי, עמלי, יגיעי, שפך דמי, יביא איזה תועלת להעניים'.
