Deed from the Greatest of the Sephardic Sages in Yerushalayim – 1854
Deed, signed by the Av Beis Din of Yerushalayim, Rabbi Michoel Yaakov Yisrael, Rabbi Avraham Ashkenazi – who later became Rishon LeTzion and Chacham Bashi, and the collector Rabbi Menachem Alsheich. The deed forbids infringing on the property rights of Rabbi Yosef Ibn Ruby, who had given a deposit on two stores in the Jewish market in Jerusalem. Jerusalem, 1854.

“And no Jew may infringe on his rights and take them in rent from the gentiles under any circumstance… He who heeds us will rest safe and unconcerned from all evil” – from the deed given to the Chacham Rabbi Yosef Ibn Ruby, who rented two stores in the Jewish market from the Arab owners. Signed by Rabbi Michoel Yaakov Yisrael and members of his Beis Din.
