Rabbi Yosef ben Rabbi Chaim Messas (1892-1974) studied at the yeshivas of Meknes, Beis El and the yeshiva of the brothers Rabbi Yosef and Rabbi Raphael Alkobi. Authored forty eight books on the Torah. Since 1924, served as the Rav of Tlemcen, Algiers. In 1941, returned to Meknes to serve as Dayan. In 1964, immigrated to Israel and since 1968 served as the Sephardic Rav of Haifa.
