Letter by Rabbi Yitzchak Zvi Sofer, handwritten and signed by him. Temeschwar, [1948].


"And I see that you have decided to give a Heter now that several years have passed having found out that the husband has fallen into the hands of the Germans and there is no fear that he is a Russian prisoner of war. So is my humble opinion ... and I am corresponding on the matter with the Rav the Holy Gaon Av Beis Din of Rashoi Shalita... and now I am awaiting his reponse whether he joins my Heter". 

Letter by Rabbi Yitzchak Zvi Sofer of Temeschwar, to the Rosh of the special Beis Din for Takanat Agunot in Pest, a Heter for a woman whose husband was sent to a place of danger with almost no survivors and the Beis Din decided to give the woman Leah the wife of R. Shimon Folk of Budapest a Heter.

Rabbi Yitzchak Zvi ben Rabbi Yisroel Mordechai Ephraim Fischel Sofer, a rav in Temeschwar, a disciple of the Daas Sofer and the grandson of the Gaon Rabbi Eliezer Zussman Sofer, Rav of Paks, Hungary, author of "Yalkus Eliezer". Authored the Seforim "Mesaper HaSofer" - Halachic Shut, commentary on the Pri Megadim, and eluciations and Pilpulim on Suggiyot. In the introduction to his Sefer, Rabbi Yisroel Weltz, Rosh Av Beis Din of Budapest, said of him that he was a renowned Gaon, already since his youth. Before the war, he purchased manuscripts, saving them from decay in an attic. Among them, he found the treasure of manuscripts of the Gaon Rav Rabbi Wolf Bokskowitz and made efforts to publish them. Seeveral years after the Holocaust he immigrated to Israel and settled in Jerusalem. 


Fold marks, stains, tears and blemishes to the perimeter of the leaf, not affecting the text, fair-good condition.
