Shlomo Meir (German/Israeli 1914-1979)
"Still Life in Tel Aviv "Oil on canvas, 23-1/2 x 32 in. Signed. Born in Germany, Immigrated to Israel in 1936 Shlomo Meir is more famous for his sculpture, which can be seen in many public places. Like many other Kibbutz artists of his time, not many people outside of the Kibbutz were exposed to his paintings. Shlomo Meir was one of the founders of Kibbutz Dalia, where he lived all his life. He studied art with important artists like Marcel Janco, Dov Feigin and Zvi Meirovitch Ð the latter strongly influencing his paintings. Like many other good artists from the periphery, he did not become a central figure but his art did not go un-noticed. Galia Bar-Or from the Ein Harod museum also included him in "The Dialectics of the Õ50s: A Hegemony and a Plurality"- the first exhibition out of six , representing six decades of Israeli art in six major exhibitions in 2008 - as part of Israel's 60th anniversary.
