Jewish Life is a monthly Russian-Jewish magazine published in Russia from January 1, 1904 to April 1, 1907. The main focus of the journal was on the theory and practice of Zionism and Palestinian colonization. A significant place was occupied by questions of the economy, which at that time began to show great interest in the Jewish intelligentsia.
In 1903, the city of St. Petersburg began to publish the monthly literary magazine "Jewish Family Library", which was published by the merchant of the first guild Sh. F. Bussel and M. D. Ryvkin; the latter was also its editor. Since 1904, this periodical printed publication began to appear under a new name - "Jewish Life".
The journal "Jewish Life" was published in the capital of the Russian Empire under the editorship of M. D. Ryvkin, I. V. Sorin and A. D. Idelson.
The Jewish Life magazine focused on the theory and practice of Zionism and Palestinian colonization. A significant place was occupied by questions of the economy, in which at that time great interest began to manifest itself in the Jewish intelligentsia (the works of D. S. Pasmanik, B. D. Brutskus, B. Goldberg, and others).
Jewish Life wrote extensively on the issues of emigration (S. Yanovsky) and nationalism (A. Idelson, V. E. Zhabotinsky, S. M. Dubnov, B. Borokhov, etc.) and the issue of Uganda and territorialism, as well as controversy with the Bund and with the so-called "Seimists". The journal also gave a number of articles in the field of Palestinian studies, devoting a monthly supplement to it during 1906. Considerably less attention was paid to fine literature.
Since 1905, under the same editorship, the weekly newspaper Chronicle of Jewish Life began to be published under the same editorial board (publisher A.F. Vilkoreisky). The Chronicle responded mainly to the demands of the day, fighting against non-Zionist currents (first with the Bund, and then also with the Jewish People's Group). Considering social phenomena from the point of view of Zionism, the newspaper, in accordance with this, developed the question of the so-called. Gegenwartsarbeit, the national political activity of the Zionist Party in Golut. At the "conferences of the Zionist press" convened by the editors of the Chronicle, a program of this national policy was worked out. In October 1905, the "Chronicle of Jewish Life" was closed by order of the administration. Soon the "Jewish People" began to appear, which existed for only two months - it was also closed. On January 1, 1907, the weekly Dawn began to replace it, which was published in the same edition and with the same direction until 1915.
