Ntchak Textile - KUBA - D.R. Congo - These textiles were used as wraparound skirts; as prestige objects and as the most important part of the dowry. Ntchaks are made of raffia from the palm tree. It is tough material which is difficult to work with. It is soaked for weeks, then it is kneaded, in order to soften the threads. The making of a Ntchak this size could take months! 2nd half of the 20th century. Very good condition. Around 3 meters
