Bidspirit Auktion | Pair of praying angels -
Pair of praying angels - JUAN DE JUNI OR HIS WORKSHOP - Castilian School, Valladolid. 16th Century - Carved, polychromed, and gilded wood. Dimensions: 49 x 33 x 13 cm each. Devotional sculpture depicting two kneeling child angels with outstretched arms, seemingly holding or venerating a lost sacred object. The vigorous carving and gentle expressions reveal the mastery of the 16th-century Valladolid workshops, heirs to the sculptural tradition of Alonso Berruguete and Juan de Juni. Original traces of polychromy and water gilding are preserved, along with delicate carmine glazes on the cheeks. A work of intense spiritual expressiveness and Renaissance balance.
