7th Century Chinese Buddha - Carved white marble. Measures 29 x 17 x 15 cm. Headless sculpture of a seated Buddha on an architectural throne with crossed legs and feet resting on a support held by a human figure. The body is enveloped in a monastic robe with soft, orderly folds that conform to the anatomy with sobriety and balance. The composition retains significant losses and fractures that accentuate its archaeological dimension and the piece's age. The throne features simple geometric forms and schematic decoration linked to Chinese Buddhist sculpture of the Tang Dynasty. The carving is notable for the serenity of its volumes and the synthetic elegance of the folds, characteristic features of the spiritual classicism developed during the Tang Dynasty, a period of extraordinary artistic and religious flourishing in China. The work retains a powerful contemplative presence despite its fragmentary state. 29 x 17 x 15 cm.
