Longquan celadon incense burner, China, Southern Song Dynasty - Longquan celadon glazed ceramic. Dimensions: diameter: 14 cm. Elegant incense burner made in the renowned kilns of Longquan during the Southern Song Dynasty. It features a low-profile, circular body with a slightly everted rim, supported by three short zoomorphic legs and decorated externally with small, regularly spaced reliefs around the rim, reminiscent of ancient bronze ritual vessels. The entire piece is covered with a magnificent celadon glaze in a deep, grayish-green hue, characteristic of the finest Longquan productions of the Song Dynasty. The purity of form, the restrained ornamentation, and the exceptional quality of the glaze reflect the refined aesthetic taste developed during this period, considered one of the high points of Chinese ceramics. Bibliography: Comparable examples of Longquan incense burners from the Southern Song Dynasty are held in the Palace Museum in Beijing, the Shanghai Museum, and the National Palace Museum in Taipei.
