Important Sicilian Trumeau painting with gallant scenes in the reserves, Sicily, Italy, 18th century - Lacquered and painted fir wood. Dimensions: 247 x 112 x 65 cm. An important Sicilian trumeau made in Palermo between 1740 and 1760, with a fir wood frame, lacquered and finely decorated with floral motifs within recessed areas, present on both the drawers and the sides. The front displays three painted scenes with landscapes, ruins, and figures, against a background decorated with a rhomboidal grid and small floral motifs, a characteristic that distinguishes this piece from 18th-century Venetian models, from which it clearly receives stylistic influence. The surface largely retains the original paint, currently altered by an old yellowish patina that modifies the original ”carta da zucchero” blue tone, giving it a greenish appearance. The piece stands out for its extraordinary decorative richness, its chromatic refinement, and its theatrical character, transforming the piece not only into a functional container but also into an object of great visual fantasy, where architecture, landscape, and floral ornamentation are integrated with remarkable elegance.
