Traditional architectural sculpture known as a Singa, used by the Toba Batak people of Sumatra as a protective element on the facades of communal houses (rumah adat). It represents a mythological creature combining human and animal features, a symbol of strength and fertility, responsible for warding off evil spirits and attracting prosperity. An elegantly designed and well-proportioned piece, carved from hardwood with a natural patina that enhances its age. Provenance: private collection. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU).
