LARGE JAPANESE BOWL - IMARI PORCELAIN, PS XIX – JAPAN - Material: Porcelain. Style: Imari. Period: Early 19th century. Country of origin: Imari, Japan. Provenance: Private collection. Good condition considering its age and use. Dimensions: 9 x 19 x 19 cm. Spectacular Imari porcelain bowl made in Japan in the early 19th century. It is made of white porcelain, covered with polychrome glazes featuring geometric and floral motifs in ochre, cobalt blue, and gold. Imari porcelain is characterized by its elaborate decoration, almost always floral, created to appeal to Western markets, and the use of cobalt blue underglaze and red (sometimes green) overglaze, frequently embellished with gold. The result is a striking ornament thanks to the intense contrast of the blue.
