In an intimate and secluded scene, the figures of the Virgin and her interlocutor, possibly Saint Joachim, meet in a solemn gesture of greeting, while Saint Joseph and another figure look on from the background. The faces are delicately modeled, with barely hinted halos and garments in shades of red, blue, and ochre. The loose treatment and small dimensions indicate a work of private devotion. The composition is part of the Florentine Cinquecento, in a style that combines Quattrocento heritage and early Mannerist echoes.
