Chinese brooch with a winged dragon. Signed. Ivory and silver. Weight 11.8 grams. China. Late 19th – early 20th century - Carved, openwork, and embossed ivory brooch with a silver safety clasp. The ivory piece measures 5.1 x 3.8 x 0.8 cm. This Chinese brooch features a winged dragon in relief, with a sinuous body, a highly expressive head, and an elaborate array of openwork and scrolls that enrich the surface. The meticulous sculptural work articulates scales, limbs, and ornamental elements through detailed and remarkably complex carving. The piece bears a signature in red Chinese characters and retains the ”Silver” hallmark on the silver clasp. Its iconography, execution, and ornamental character are linked to Chinese production from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. From a private collector. Weight: 11.8 grams.
