Vase with handles and shishi decoration, Japan, Meiji period, 19th - 20th century - Chiseled bronze or gilt brass. Measures 37 x 18 cm. Baluster-bodied vase with two side handles and a flared neck decorated with a vegetal frieze. The body features relief figures of shishi fish amid undulating clouds and geometric and vegetal ornamental motifs. The reverse incorporates a second shishi figure in a dynamic pose. The surface shows wear, light scratches, and variations in patina.
