Architectural gargoyle in the form of a yali head with open jaws, prominent eyes, and a fierce expression of intense protectiveness. The fantastical creature displays flowing hair and stylized features crafted with great sculptural force, originally intended for apotropaic functions within religious architecture. The carving exhibits erosion, losses, and surface wear consistent with its age and outdoor exposure. The expressiveness concentrated in the face and the volumetric simplification recall Southeast Asian sculptural traditions influenced by Hindu and Indianized models.
