Baroque polychrome wooden console with putto figure, European School, 18th Century - Carved, polychromed, and gilded wood. Dimensions: 105 x 102 x 40 cm. This important Baroque corbel was conceived as both an ornamental and functional element. It rests on a base decorated with moldings and gilded supports, from which emerges a complex composition of scrolls and volutes with a pronounced sense of movement. The piece is dominated by a child figure, either allegorical or angelic in nature, carved in the round and positioned in a dynamic pose, supporting a decorative surface on its head. The sculptural treatment of the child's body displays volumetric modeling inspired by the Baroque style, with a robust anatomy, flowing hair, and intense gestural expressiveness. The polychromy, imitating marble and hard stones, is combined with extensive gilded areas, creating a rich scenographic and ornamental effect characteristic of 18th-century European sacred and palatial furnishings. The abundance of curves, counter-curves, and vegetal elements reinforces the theatrical nature of the composition, designed to be integrated into interiors with elaborate decoration.
