Important Virgin with Child in her arms, attributable to Sebastián Ducete (1568-1621), Castilian Renaissance school of the 16th century - Gilded, polychrome, and sgraffito carved wood sculpture. Origin: private collection, Madrid. Total measurements: 78 x 30 x 25 cm. Sebastián Ducete, a sculptor from Toro, in Zamora (1568-1621), and son of another sculptor, Pedro Ducete, a member of a saga of artists of the same name who worked in Toro in the central third of the 16th century. The insignificance of the father and his uncle, Juan Ducete, has led historians to consider that he must have had complementary training with some teacher active in the region, with clear Junian roots, since he is the master of Renaissance sculpture Juan de Juni , to which the aesthetics and forms of the Toresan master refer. Professor Vasallo Toranzo hypothesizes the names of Bautista Vázquez, a teacher from Leon, and Juan de Montejo, active in Zamora, as possible Ducete teachers.
