Ritual dance puppet. Salampasu people, Democratic Republic of Congo, 20th century - Wood and plant fiber. Dimensions: 45 cm. Articulated figure used in ritual dances of the Salampasu people, carved from wood and dressed in plant fiber elements, with a conical headdress and a mukinka-type frontal mask. This type of puppet was adopted from Chokwe models and was associated with ceremonial contexts linked to warrior societies and protection rituals. The piece has a strong symbolic charge and retains its dynamic and expressive character, constituting a remarkable example of performative sculpture from Central Africa.
