Bell currency, Dowayo village, Cameroon, 20th century - Wrought iron. Dimensions: 105 × 44 × 18 cm. A unique traditional metal piece from the Dowayo people of northern Cameroon, used as a form of ceremonial currency and a symbol of social status. These large bells, with their deep sound, also served in marriage rituals and as dowry, in addition to representing wealth and prestige within the community. The surface retains a beautiful ferruginous patina that testifies to its age and ritual use. Provenance: private collection. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU).
