Our Lady of the Pear Tree. Hispanic-Colonial School. 18th Century - Oil on panel. Dimensions: 28.3 x 20.3 cm (34 x 26.5 x 3 cm with frame). A Marian image of deep devotional roots, in which the Virgin appears crowned and dressed in a red tunic and blue mantle, holding the Child Jesus in her left arm. The stylistic features, the use of gold in the halos, and the frontal composition are reminiscent of 18th-century Spanish American colonial painting, probably from an Andean workshop. The execution, both simple and solemn, reflects the aesthetic syncretism between European tradition and local sensibility, manifested in the chromatic harmony and the symbolic character of the light. This work constitutes an exceptional testimony to popular religiosity and Marian devotion in the territories of the viceroyalty.
