Bidspirit auction | African mask, possibly Fang area,

African mask, possibly Fang area, Central Africa, 20th century - Carved wood with traces of polychromy. Measures 46 x 27 x 25 cm. Mask with an oval face and stylized features, a long straight nose, half-closed eyes, and a small mouth with prominent teeth, surrounded by a striated border that frames the face with strong formal solidity. The geometric simplification and hieratic serenity of the features reflect a ritual and symbolic aesthetic, where expressive power arises from the refinement of volumes and the patina of use. The piece belongs to the tradition of African ceremonial sculpture, valued for its plastic intensity and its capacity for formal condensation.
