Elegant 17th century Spanish cabinet, in wood and bone, 116 x 68 x 40 cm
This cabinet is a jewel of 17th-century Spanish cabinetmaking, notable for its combination of wood, probably walnut or cherry, with intricate bone inlays. The inlays, typical of the Mudejar style, form geometric, floral and figurative designs that decorate the multiple drawers and metal fittings. Measuring 116 x 68 x 40 cm, its considerable size and turned legs with lion's feet suggest that this was a piece of furniture of great importance in its context. The Mudejar style, which fuses Gothic and Moorish elements, is evident in the decorative motifs, reflecting the rich artistic tradition of the period. Used to store valuable objects such as jewellery and documents, these cabinets also served as decorative pieces in the main rooms. Their historical and artistic value is incalculable, being an exquisite example of 17th-century Spanish craftsmanship, with great appeal in the antiques market due to their age, scarcity and sophisticated execution.
