Romanist relief from the 16th century, dimensions: 50 x 40 x 5 cm
Magnificent wooden relief depicting a religious scene with influences from 16th century Romanism. The polychrome woodwork presents a dramatic scene, probably related to the cycle of the Passion of Christ, showing great skill in the carving of the figures and in the application of colour. The frame surrounding the scene adds a touch of theatricality to the composition, very much in keeping with the style of the period.
