Large and Spectacular Saint Barbara in Carved stone Ile de France - French Gothic School from the 14th century to the debut of the 15th century
In carved stone with remains of its original polychrome, measurements: 85 x 40 x 20 cm. In good original condition, Barbara of Nicomedia (in ancient Greek: Ἁγία Βαρβάρα; in Latin: Barbara Heliopolitana vel Nicomediensis, Born 3rd century - Died 4th century), known in the Eastern Orthodox Church as the Great Martyr Barbara, was a Phoenician early Christian saint and martyr, patron saint of miners and artillerymen and others who work with explosives due to the association of her legend with lightning, whose holiday is celebrated by the Catholic Church on December 4. Provenance: liquidation of an important European private collection, lots 168-259).
