Rare Flemish miniature on tortoiseshell representing Saint Lawrence being burned by flames, 17th century
Measurements with antique frame of the time: 25 x 25 cm, measurements only miniature on tortoiseshell: 10 x 10 cm. This exceptional and meticulous miniature representation of oil on tortoiseshell plate. It preserves its original to the period Flemish curly frame of origin and also from the 17th century and uses the tortoiseshell plate with its characteristic red and black intensity and contrast to serve as the background of the composition and imitating the flames that consumed the Saint, one of the seven regional deacons. from Rome, the city where he was martyred on a grill on August 10, 258, four days after the martyrdom of Pope Sixtus II. Provenance: important private collection, Madrid.
