Spectacular and unprecedented in the market, the Great Carving of Abraham, Biblical Patriarch, Sevillian mannerist school from the 16th century, attributable to Juan Bautista Vázquez el Viejo (1510 - 1588)
Report of the piece is attached. Large sculpture in polychrome, stewed, gilt and sgraffito wood carving, good condition, with no apparent signs of xylophages. Juan Bautista Vázquez, the Elder (1510-1588) formed with the disciples of Vasco de la Zarza, later it is believed that he traveled to Italy, where his style became more elegant. Starting in 1554 he moved to Toledo where he carried out various works for the cathedral of this city, the church of Almonacid de Zorita (Guadalajara) and that of Santa María la Blanca de Toledo, among others. Running in the year 1561 he moved to Seville to finish the altarpiece, Vázquez moved from Toledo where he worked, with a whole group of collaborators who formed his workshop integrated among others by his brother-in-law and carver Juan de Oviedo, the elder, Miguel de Adán, Gaspar del Águila and Jerónimo Hernández. He works on the second phase of the main altarpiece of the Cathedral of Seville, in that of Santa María in Carmona (1563), in that of San Mateo in Lucena (1572), in that of Santa María la Coronada in Medina Sidonia (1575) and He also sculpted the image of the Virgen de las Fiebres for the Church of Santa María Magdalena in Seville and in 1573 the image of the Christ of Burgos.
