After finishing high school, Laureà Barrau enrolled in the School of Engineering to follow in his father's footsteps. The artist combined his studies with the Drawing and Painting classes that he received at the Barcelona School of Fine Arts. It was in this prestigious academy where he had the opportunity to receive lessons taught by painters such as Claudio Lorenzale and Antonio Caba. When he decided to start his career in Fine Arts, he began a trip to Madrid in 1882, a stay that he took advantage of to copy the works of the great artists that were exhibited in the Prado Museum. The latter exerted a great influence on Barrau's art, A fact that becomes evident when comparing the paintings The Capitulation of Girona (1887), by Barrau, and The Surrender of Granada, by Pradilla. Likewise, he participated in the mural painting of the Sant Jordi Hall of the Palace of the Generalitat of Catalonia, where he presented The Battle of Las Navas de Tolosa (1927-1929). In 1950 he exhibited individually at the Sala Busquets in Barcelona. Barrau died in Santa Eulalia des Río (Ibiza) in October 1957, at the advanced age of ninety-four.
